According to claims in Portuguese media, as relayed Mundo Deportivo, Pedro Porro has become one of the hottest prospects in the market right now, with a host of clubs interested in his services ahead of the January transfer window.

Real Madrid are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the situation of Porro, whose agent could meet with the Sporting CP representatives to discuss the possibility of a potential sale in January.

This comes after an excellent start to the season for the defender, who has firmly established himself as one of the top-performing players in the Portuguese league so far. The right-back has indeed been extremely consistent, impressing the onlookers with his balanced style of play out wide.

Porro’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid joined by other giants such as FC Barcelona, Juventus, and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the defender.

The likes of Real Madrid and Barça have already made initial contacts, exploring the possibility of a January swoop.

However, luring Porro away from Sporting CP will not be a cost-effective operation. Since the defender has a contract until 2025, he will not come cheap. In fact, he reportedly has a release clause worth €45 million embedded in his deal.

There could be grounds for negotiations, but Sporting CP will not make it easy, especially knowing that Porro’s former club, Manchester City, will pocket 30% of the proceeds from the player’s sale.

This essentially means that Sporting may only receive €31 million if some team agrees to pay Porro’s release clause.

But that could be a difficult proposition even for clubs such as Real Madrid, who are in need of a new right-back who can offer competition to Dani Carvajal. While Lucas Vazquez has acted as an able deputy, he is into his thirties and the club needs to look forward to the future.

So, a player like Porro can be a good addition to that end, although a January swoop for him seems unlikely as Real Madrid reportedly have no plans to invest in new players in the winter.
