With Zinedine Zidane self isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, his assistant David Bettoni has taken over the first team for the time being.
An assistant under Zidane during both of his Real Madrid spells, Bettoni faced the media on Friday to preview Saturday’s clash with Alavés.
Here’s what he had to say …
“It’s a difficult moment for him, but he’ll be supporting us from home. His spirits are high.”
“Ramos and Carvajal are both recovering from their injuries and they will not be with us tomorrow.”
“Ødegaard? I don’t know anything about that. I’m Real Madrid’s assistant coach and there are a lot of things I don’t know.”
“My importance in Zidane’s system? I’m his assistant and I give him information – but in terms of decisions, he’s the one making them. I just help.”
“Zidane’s situation? I see him with a smile every morning, we love this job and we’ll do everything to help Real Madrid to the fullest.”
“Team talk tomorrow? It’s an internal decision, Zidane is going to be with us – he’s providing the little details. The important thing is that he’s going to be with his players tomorrow.”
