With the club football season officially closing until the restart for the FIFA Club World Cup, the Real Madrid players have finally been presented with a chance to unwind and rejuvenate after a hectic season. For the internationals, however, the joy is short-lived.

With the international break set to begin in a few days, players must already begin to return to training. The Spanish and French teams, however, have an added spotlight on them as they are set to face off in a high-octane semifinal game in the UEFA Nations League.

Real Madrid, ironically, have superior representation in the French side with Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni both being called up. The club, however, are not happy with the timing of the call-up.

Pushing for rest

As relayed by L’Equipe in a recent report, Mbappe and Tchouameni are due to join the French camp on Friday ahead of the UEFA Nations League game.

Real Madrid, however, have written to the players to travel on Monday and join just in time for the international break’s opening.

After all, the club rightfully see both players to be heavily overworked and for it to be unfair for them to return to action with such little rest.

Didier Deschamps, however, wants to have as many players as possible joining early to prepare for the mega game especially given that a bulk of his squad is unavailable as PSG are in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

It remains to be seen if the duo pay heed to Real Madrid’s letter and stay back for some extra days or if they value Deschamps’ call-up and turn up by tomorrow.

With Mbappe being the captain, it may not sit well if he prioritises rest over the national team.

Yet, the game between France and Spain only kicks off a week later and the players will likely have enough time to get back into gear even if they join only on Monday. The decision rests with the individual players.
