In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Real Madrid are locked in a fierce battle for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. It is understood that Los Blancos could face competition in the form of Liverpool and Manchester United in pursuit of the English centre-back.

Branthwaite’s Impressive Form At Merseyside This Season

Branthwaite has served as an important player in Everton‘s squad this season as he has put in a run of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Toffees during this campaign, securing one assist in the process across various competitions.

The English sensation has been a good performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 6.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 81.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Branthwaite’s current deal at the Merseyside club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Los Blancos to land him on the cheap later this year.

Is Branthwaite A Good Choice For Real Madrid?

Branthwaite is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can even play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.95m, Branthwaite can use his robust frame to win his fair share of aerial duels inside his half. However, he might need some time to make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to win the race for his services in the summer transfer window.

Branthwaite would add more bite and steel to the Madrid club‘s defence. Furthermore, he is good enough to serve as a good rotational piece at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming years.

At 22, Branthwaite has the potential to be a world-class defender someday. Thus, he would be an excellent choice for Real Madrid to consider in the long run.
