In a recent report, Defensa Central revealed that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the English talent to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this summer.
Wharton was a useful presence in Oliver Glasner’s match-day squad in the previous campaign when he put in a run of solid displays for the Eagles at the centre of the park. The English midfield ace participated in 27 matches for Crystal Palace last season, securing a couple of assists in the process across various competitions.
The 21-year-old anchored the midfield well as he made 34 tackles, 11 blocks and 20 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 75.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Selhurst Park will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for Real Madrid to snap him up on the cheap in this transfer period.

Wharton loves a tackle and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears his lines when required and is a good passer of the ball. Wharton mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if required.
However, the English sensation needs to add a few goals to his game. Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
We can expect Wharton to bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso’s midfield department. He has what it takes to serve as a good rotational piece in Los Blancos’ squad this season.
At 21, Wharton has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be a great option for the Madrid giants to consider in this summer transfer window. However, Alonso needs to give Wharton some time to adjust to Real Madrid’s brand of football before he can unlock the best out of him.
