In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a loan move for FC Porto forward Mehdi Taremi this winter. It has been stated that Los Blancos are showing interest in signing the Iranian striker on loan in the January transfer window.

Taremi’s Lackluster Form In Portuguese Football This Season

Taremi had made an underwhelming start to this campaign after struggling to be productive for Porto in the final third. The 31-year-old has failed to find the back of the net in five matches for the Portuguese club this season on all fronts.

The veteran forward has caught the eye at times by averaging 1.8 shots and 0.5 key passes per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 74.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Los Blancos to arrange a cut-price move for him this January.

Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Taremi Up This Summer?

Taremi can use his strong 1.85m frame to hold possession up for his team. He excels at finding space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. Taremi is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a left-winger if required.

The Iranian sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. However, as mentioned earlier, he has to figure out a way to improve his link-up play in the opponent’s half.

The Bushehr-born talent is currently entering the final stage of his playing career. With his contract set to expire next summer, Real Madrid would be wise to land him on the cheap in the January transfer period.

At 31, Taremi might still have a couple of good seasons left in him and could enhance the depth of Carlo Ancelotti‘s match-day squad at the Madrid club. All in all, Los Blancos should only consider snapping the Iranian talent up if they can do so for a reduced fee this winter. However, only time will tell whether the Porto sensation can make a smooth transition to life in the Spanish capital.
