Real Madrid star Antonio Rudiger showed off an unconventional celebration after scoring a stunning goal in training.
In a clip posted on Madrid’s Twitter account, the German international can be seen controlling the ball on the edge of the area, taking one touch, before firing home an unstoppable effort into the top left corner.
The goal was good in its own right, but Rudiger’s reaction was even better.
Having rifled the ball home, the defender clutched his hamstring and started limping – appearing to infer that he’d pulled or even torn a muscle.
Shortly after, however, the 29-year-old burst into laughter and even broke out some dance moves.
Rudiger’s amusing ruse went down well with his Madrid peers, but he is not the first player to pull off the gag.
Back in August, Kansas City Current star Lo’eau LaBonta went viral for doing the same thing, after scoring against Angel City in the NWSL.
The American limped away in celebration, before suddenly proceeding to twerk out of nowhere.
US football star Antonee Robinson was seemingly the first to adopt the celebration, having used it while playing for the US national team earlier this year.
The Fulham defender scored his second international goal against El Salvador and launched into a cartwheel, followed by a backflip.
Robinson then pretended to clutch his hamstring, much to the relief of the crowd.
Explaining the celebration, Robinson said: “A few years ago when I was at Everton, a kid did the same celebration against us and my best friend’s been saying to me for weeks ‘you’ve got to do it,’ and every time I score he’s like ‘why didn’t you do it?’ So I pulled it out.”
Rudiger signed for Madrid in the summer after leaving Chelsea on a free transfer.
The German had been with the Blues for five seasons — winning the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League.
On June 2nd, 2022, Rudiger penned a four-year deal with Madrid and made his debut on August 10th in the UEFA Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt.
His first goal came in September when he scored the final goal in a 4-1 win against Mallorca.
So far this season, the defender has made 16 appearances -– scoring two goals.
