Real Madrid will have a new captain for the 2023/24 season after Nacho signed a one-year extension.
The departure of Karim Benzema opened the door for the armband, and despite being heavily tipped to depart, the Spaniard will now stay in the capital.
Nacho is the only one-club man left in the squad after joining at the age of 10 and grew into a key player in the senior squad over the last 20 years.
The versatile centre-back was a pivotal member of the club’s Champions League three-in-a-row side and 2022 double, alongside a recent Copa del Rey victory.
Given Real Madrid determine the captaincy by years spent at the club, his dedication has led to him finally dropping the vice title.
Throughout his career, Nacho has made over 300 appearances, and registered 16 goals and nine assists to win a whopping 23 trophies.
