Real Madrid And Their Summer Signings Rated And Reviewed After A Successful La Liga Season | OneFootball

Real Madrid have enjoyed a fruitful campaign in La Liga after bagging the title last month with quite a few games to spare. Los Blancos have also gone through a fairytale run in this season’s UEFA Champions League as Carlo Ancelotti’s men have reached the final in Paris where they will now face off against Liverpool later this week.

The Madrid giants have been remarkably consistent with their results during this campaign despite having an aging midfield. However, the recruitment of Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennais last summer helped them cope with fixture congestion better over the past ten months.

Real Madrid also opted to bring David Alaba to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium ahead of the 2021-22 campaign which has paid dividends as they are now in a chance to do a La Liga, Spanish Super Cup and Champions League treble.

Let’s take a look at how both their new signings, Camavinga and Alaba fared this season.

Eduardo Camavinga – 7/10

At the tender age of 19, Camavinga managed to serve as a decent rotational piece in Ancelotti’s match-day squad during this campaign. The French whizkid has caught the eye at times as he made 38 appearances for the Madrid outfit, netting two goals and grabbing two assists across multiple competitions.

Camavinga will only get better with each season, so the future is quite bright for the former Ligue 1 prospect in the Spanish capital.

David Alaba – 8/10

Alaba deserves a lot of plaudits for making a smooth transition to life at the Bernabeu since making a move from Bayern Munich last summer. The Wien-born talent was a regular feature at the centre of Ancelotti’s defence and performed well to find the back of the net on three occasions and pick up four assists in 45 matches for Real Madrid this season on all fronts.

The experienced Austria international proved his worth as a solid presence on the defensive end of the pitch by averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed possession well from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 92.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).
