Real Madrid have been linked with the possible signing of a midfielder since last summer, following the retirement of Toni Kroos.

The Merengues went on without bringing in a replacement, something that proved costly last season as the German’s absence was sorely felt.

Now, with Luka Modric also leaving, talks of a move for a midfielder have begun doing the rounds again, with Manchester City superstar Rodri being touted as a potential target.

However, a move for the Spanish international seems out of the question this summer due to multiple factors, including his contract situation and recent long-term absence due to ACL injury.

Future transfer feasible

Building on that, journalist Jorge C Picon reports that at the moment there is nothing concrete between Real Madrid and Rodri.

However, the update states that there is mutual admiration and interest between the two parties to explore the possibility of a transfer in the future.

The Real Madrid board like the 2024 Ballon d’Or a lot and the midfielder himself is understood to be open to the idea.

So, while the possibility of a transfer this summer is pretty much ruled out, a future move is seen as very feasible.

It must be noted that Rodri has a contract with Manchester City that runs until 2027, meaning he will be entering the final year of his deal next summer.

It could present Real Madrid with an opening to move for Rodri and sign him for a more feasible price than the €100 million+ the deal might require in the current transfer window.
