Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals of the 2022/23 Copa del Rey.
Los Blancos faced a tough assignment at the quarter-final stage in the form of local rivals, Atletico Madrid.
And Diego Simeone’s side took the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday evening thanks to a strike from Alvaro Morata.
All in all, it was a pretty woeful first half display from Real Madrid at their home ground.
But as they nearly always seem to do, Carlo Ancelotti’s serial winners rallied after the interval.
A magnificent equaliser from Rodrygo Goes took the game to extra-time, where goals from Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior eventually sealed a 3-1 victory.
Real Madrid will learn their semi-final opponents on Monday. It will be one of Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao or Osasuna.
It was certainly an important victory for the current champions of Spain, especially after their loss in the Super Cup final.
Overall, Real Madrid were probably deserved winners against Atletico, although a viral video suggests they were a tad fortunate with refereeing decisions throughout the match.
A compilation of calls that went against the visitors has attracted some serious numbers on Twitter – and the footage is rather damning.

Yeah, you have to feel for Atletico a tad. Some of the decisions were very, very questionable.
Dani Ceballos was incredibly lucky to escape a second yellow card, while Stefan Savic saw himself sent off in extra-time for picking up two bookings in a short space of time – the latter for a foul on Eduardo Camavinga.
The Ceballos incident certainly infuriated Atletico boss, Diego Simeone.
“What happened with Ceballos was crucial in the result,” Simeone said after the match, per Daily Mail.
“It seems that no one cares but it is the reality. But we competed well. I don’t know if the referee has a personal problem with Morata because he didn’t give him a single foul all night.”
Goalkeeper Jan Oblak was also not best pleased with the decision that went in Ceballos’ favour.
“If it’s red for Savic it should be red for them,” he quipped. “We are used to it but it’s hard to take.”
Unsurprisingly, Ceballos was full of praise for the officials.
“The referee was brilliant,” the Spanish midfielder said. “Savic brings down Camavinga and has to be shown the yellow.”
