The man in question is William Carvalho, who the club confirmed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon, an injury which is likely to rule him out for the remainder of the season.

It’s a big blow for the 32-year-old Portuguese midfielder, who has been at Real Betis for seven seasons now, and has regularly featured for the club since 2018.

The injury came in the first half, when the midfielder looked uncomfortable after making a pass and then immediately asked to be substituted.

A stretcher was needed to remove Carvalho from the field of play, around the 25-minute mark of the action.

The midfielder now will undergo surgery before commencing a lengthy recovery process.
