It’s been a busy summer for Real Betis, and their business is far from over. Two centre-backs are wanted, while a new attacker is also now going to be required, with Ayoze Perez set to join Villarreal in the coming days.
That attacker could be Giovani Lo Celso, whom they’ve been monitoring for much of the summer. The 28-year-old will almost certainly be leaving Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes, and a return to the Benito Villamarin is a possibility.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Betis remain keen on re-signing Lo Celso. However, Aston Villa are also in the race, which could complicate matters as Los Verdiblancos would be unable to compete financially with Premier League money.
Lo Celso would be a very good signing for Betis, especially if he were to re-capture the form he showed during his previous spell at the club in 2018-19. The money coming on from the Ayoze sale would help their pursuit, although it’s more likely that Nabil Fekir’s departure would also be required, given that the two are similar players (alongside Isco, who will be staying).
