It’s clear to see that Real Betis need to sign defenders during the summer transfer window. As things stand, they will only have two senior centre-backs for next season, that being German Pezzella and Marc Bartra, as Chadi Riad (joining Crystal Palace) and Sokratis (retiring) will be leaving at the end of the season.
Additionally to this, Pezzella has been linked with a return to Argentina, so it’s essential for some central defenders to be brought in by Betis. Fortunately, they’ve already made their first move – and it is for Mallorca captain Antonio Raillo.
As per Ultima Hora de Mallorca (via MD), Betis have submitted an opening offer for Raillo. Mallorca, who turned down €3m for the 32-year-old last summer, are willing to negotiate with Los Verdiblancos.
Raillo would add experience to Real Betis’ backline, and a solidity that is needed for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to break back into the Top 6 in La Liga. It remains to be seen if they can get it over the line in the coming weeks.
