Real Betis defender Felix Garreta has woken up from a coma, five days after it was medically induced. The head trauma occurred after a domestic accident last week, and he was transferred to a hospital in Barcelona, nearer his family.

The on-loan central defender has been a regular for Amorebieta in Segunda this year, and Relevo say that he recognised his family when he did wake up. It was described by his doctor as a positive step, but they explained they were taken nothing for granted, and that Garreta’s progress would be under close observation in the coming days.

The 20-year-old joined Betis in 2021, and is highly regarded in Andalusia. He has made seven appearances for Spain’s under-19 side, and was due to partake in their preseason this summer, before a decision is made on his future. Hopefully the situation continues to evolve in the right direction, following such a serious injury.
