Real Betis defeated Sevilla in their resumed Copa del Rey tie on Sunday.

The match had been postponed on Saturday with the score at 1-1 after a missile was launched from the stands and struck Sevilla's Joan Jordan. After several minutes of discussion, the match was suspended and it was eventually decided that it would restart on Sunday afternoon at 16:00 local time, kicking off from the 39th minute and with all supporters locked out.

When the match did resume on Sunday, Real Betis somehow managed to carry on the momentum from Nabil Fekir's equaliser and finished the remaining minutes of the first half well. Juanmi even put the ball in the net, although this was ruled out for a clear offside.

After the break, it was a tense affair with neither side fully in control. Sevilla wanted a penalty for a potential Sergio Canales handball, but nothing was given.

Then, in the 73rd minute, Sergio Canales was decisive at the other end as brought down a William Carvalho pass and finished past the young Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor.

Sevilla pushed for an equaliser and did come close, with Jules Kounde heading off the crossbar. But, that was as close as Sevilla would get, with Real Betis holding on for victory as the cheers from their fans gathered outside the ground could be heard over the empty stands.

Julen Lopetegui and Manuel Pellegrini argued on the pitch as Real Betis celebrated this win, and the Saturday night incident will be talked about for many more days to come.
