Cédric Bakambu faces surgery and will be out for four or five months for Real Betis following his injury in El Gran Derbi against Sevilla.
The Congolese forward will undergo surgery tomorrow and won’t even be ready for Real Betis’ preseason, when they head to the United States.
After an injury sustained during the derby, Bakambu’s season with Betis has come to an end. Eight days following the injury, Bakambu received some bad news regarding the extent of the damage, which also spells bad news for Betis.
As per Marca, the club’s head of medical services, José Manuel Álvarez, detailed the situation: “Definitely, in agreement with our medical team and the player himself, we’ve decided on surgery to address the injury to the rectus femoris tendon. Tomorrow, he’ll undergo surgery performed by the club’s medical team.”
Álvarez refrained from giving an exact recovery timeline but hinted at around four to five months: “I don’t like making predictions because, in medicine and football, they’re never certain. We have a similar case in the club with (Youssouf) Sabaly, whose injury suggests a recovery time of around four to five months, approximately.“
Additionally, Álvarez discussed the injuries sustained by Juan Miranda and Germán Pezzella in the recent match against Osasuna at El Sadar. Miranda received five staples to close a wound on the field and should recover quickly, while Pezzella’s substitution due to nerve pain was precautionary. As for Isco, he’s expected to return in good condition after a restful weekend.
