Ready to go again

Eintracht welcome Borussia Dortmund to Deutsche Bank Park as the second half of the season gets under way. The aim is clear: to be quick out of the starting blocks.

There were no more than 11 days between the last Bundesliga match of 2021 against 1. FSV Mainz 05 and the start of Oliver Glasner’s winter training on 30 December. Eintracht were one of the few teams in the top half of the table to resume training before the turn of the year, in a clear indication that both the team and the coaching staff are eager to follow on from a successful 2021.

Eintracht’s form on the up

The first primetime clash of the year on Saturday evening (18:30 CET) pits two of the three best teams of the last calendar year against each other – at least in terms of points. Eintracht collected a total of 70 points, Dortmund 76. Only Bayern performed better with 91.

If you take the last seven games, Frankfurt’s form shows a clear upward trajectory. The Eagles won six out of seven and collected 18 points, the same number as Bayern. In the same period, BVB registered three wins and 10 points.

Another factor also offers hope of a successful start to the year: Dortmund are winless in their last seven Bundesliga visits to Frankfurt, with the last four meetings between the two sides at Deutsche Bank Park ending in draws.
