Readingâs home clash with Port Vale was abandoned due to a mass pitch invasion in the opening quarter of an hour.
Home supporters made their way onto the playing surface early in the first half of Saturdayâs League One encounter at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
A sizeable crowd of Royals fans chose to take to the pitch in their latest protest against the clubâs unpopular owner Dai Yongge.
Reading attempted to plead with supporters to disperse through several messages posted on their official social media channels.
But after the demonstration remained unmoved for over an hour, a decision to abandon the fixture was finally made.
âFollowing an on-pitch protest at Reading v Port Vale, todayâs fixture has been abandoned,â confirmed an EFL statement.
âEvery effort was made to restart the game but it became increasingly obvious that this would not be possible.
âWe will now discuss the implications of this afternoonâs events with the clubs involved.â
RubĂŠn SellĂŠsâ side are currently mired in League Oneâs relegation zone, having received a four-point deduction earlier this season for financial breaches.
