De Telegraaf are reporting that Stijn Spierings is set to move to RC Lens despite strong interest from PSV Eindhoven. The 27-year-old midfielder is available on a free transfer after leaving Toulouse at the end of the season. PSV were strong contenders to complete the signing, but Ligue 1 club RC Lens appear to have won the race. Spierings is reportedly due to undergo his medical with the French club today.

RC Lens finished the Ligue 1 season in second place, which means Stijn Spierings is set play Champions League football next season. The former AZ Alkmaar and Sparta Rotterdam midfielder has never played a game of Champions League football. Last season, with Toulouse, the Dutchman featured 42 times as the club finished in 13th place. On top of that, they won their first ever Coupe de France beating Nantes 5-1 in the final.

PSV saw Spierings as a suitable replacement for Ibrahim Sangaré. The Ivorian midfielder, who joined the Dutch giants from Toulouse in 2020, is being linked with a move away from the Philips Stadion this summer. Spierings would have been a brilliant replacement, but RC Lens are set to announce the signing soon.
