As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Marcel Halstenberg’s move from RB Leipzig to Hannover is all but complete.

Hannover’s pursuit over the transfer of Marcel Halstenberg has finally come to an end after a deal between Die Roten and Leipzig had stalled. Despite Die Roten Bullen’s reluctance to allow the defender to leave, the signing of El Chadaille Bitshiabu from PSG has made the German left-back surplus to requirements.

A fee of €500k has been agreed between the two clubs and a contract will be signed later this week to confirm the signing. Leipzig have announced that the 31-year-old will not be training with the squad today after being given permission to speak to Hannover over finalising the deal.

Last season, Halstenberg featured 40 times in all competitions for Leipzig scoring two goals and collecting four assists. He would also help the side retain the DFB-Pokal trophy, playing the full 90 minutes as Marco Rose’s side triumphed 2-0 over Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to Bild, the nine-time German international had asked Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl to be allowed to return home to Hannover for family reasons. Despite having a year left on his current deal, Halstenberg has now said his farewells to the Leipzig camp amid his imminent transfer.
