RB Leipzig have announced the appointment of Marco Rose as their new head coach after sacking Domenico Tedesco.
The 45-year-old has joined the club on a two-year contract. Rose will be introduced at a press conference today and will manage his first training session this afternoon.
Rose’s first two games for Leipzig are against his former clubs Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.
He will be in the dugout against Dortmund on Saturday after he was sacked by the club this summer.
Rose started his managerial career at Lokomotiv Leipzig before joining RB Salzburg, where he spent six years.
He won back-to-back titles in Austria in 2017/18 and 2018/19. His team also won the Austrian Cup.
Rose joined Gladbach ahead of the 2019/20 season and led the Foals to a fourth-placed finish in the league. They also reached the round of 16 in the Champions League.
He left to join Dortmund, where he spent a solitary season. He finished second in the Bundesliga with BVB, but their European campaign went wrong.
They crashed out of the Champions League into the Europa League, where they fell to finalists Rangers. Dortmund sacked him at the end of the campaign and replaced him with Edin Terzic.
Rose will have the mountain of stabilising Leipzig’s season after a poor start to the campaign. Leipzig have won just once in the league this season.
Their last Bundesliga game was an embarrassing 4-0 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. In the Champions League, they lost 4-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk at home in Tedesco’s final game at the club.
Rose is the choice of new Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl. The 48-year-old recently left Gladbach after 13 years. He brought Rose to Gladbach and trusts him to lead his latest project.
Eberl will expect Rose to replicate and better what that impressive Gladbach side achieved. He will also hope he holds on to the talented tactician for a little longer.
