Rayados de Monterrey has signed Omar Govea from Romanian Club FC Voluntari as a reinforcement ahead of the 2023 Liga MX Clausura.
He joins on a one-year loan, with an additional purchase option.
“The clubs FC Voluntari and CF Monterrey have reached an agreement on the loan of Omar Govea for a period of one year, with a final transfer option. Omar Govea has played for our team in 10 games this season, managing to score 1 goal and give a decisive pass,” announced FC Voluntari through social media channels.
“The Mexican player was named the Super Player of the 13th stage, after his sensational performance in the match with CS Mioveni."
Govea has been playing in Europe since 2015, making the jump from Mineros de Zacatecas to FC Porto 2 before seeing stints with Belgian sides Excel Mouscron, Antwerp and Zulte Waregem.
The midfielder joined FC Voluntari in the second half of 2022, after going several months without playing. He’ll now have to fight for a starting place at Rayados under Víctor Manuel Vucetich, as the team currently boasts Luis Romo, Celso Ortiz, Arturo González and Maximiliano Meza.
Rayados concluded the 2022 Apertura in second place on the table with 35 points in 17 games and a record of 10W-2L-5D, before losing to Pachuca in the Liguilla semi-finals.
The 2023 Clausura kicks off on January 6.
