Ray Parlour believes Harry Maguire can silence his critics during the international break.

The Arsenal legend also thinks that by performing well against Italy and Germany, Maguire will send a message to Erik ten Hag about his place in the United team.

Speaking on talkSPORT about Maguire, Parlour said: “Do you know what I would be thinking now? I would be thinking what an opportunity to shut a few people up.

“I would be going out there, giving it my all, hopefully playing well, clean sheet and walk away and say, look I won’t let you down if you do give me the opportunity to play.

“Because there will be an occasion where he will be back in that Manchester United squad.”

Personally, I think it would take a lot more than that for Maguire to silence his critics. He would have to earn his place back in the Manchester United XI which at this rate is very unlikely.

Some of the criticism is deserved, but we have reached a point where a lot of it is weird. Especially on social media when I think Maguire has become the most bullied footballer in the world.

Patrice Evra touched on it in a recent interview when he suggested the criticism had crossed a line.

However, Maguire has failed to start a Premier League game since the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford, and he has featured on the bench ever since.

That didn’t stop him earning a place in the latest England squad but that is because Maguire is one of Gareth Southgate’s most trusted players.
