It was some day for Wolves hitman Raúl Jiménez, who left Southampton with two goals, a come-from-behind win and a new club record to show for his efforts.

Not only did the Mexico international’s brace secure three points for the visitors, but it also saw him become Wolves’ top scorer in the Premier League.

Stephen Fletcher had held the record of 22 goals since 2012.

However, a 65th-minute penalty followed by a winner 11 minutes later saw Jiménez leapfrog the Scotsman in the record books.

“I want to say thank you to all my teammates, to the staff, to the coach, because without all of them, I can’t achieve this goal,” Jiménez said after the thrilling win at St Mary’s.

“I’m very happy for this, and I want to keep scoring,” he added.

The 28-year-old was full of praise for how Nuno Espírito Santo’s charges battled back from a 2-0 deficit.

Pedro Neto halved the deficit before Jimenez’s heroics.

“In the end, we know that it depends on us – what we want to do, what we want to achieve,” Jiménez told Wolves TV.

“So, we need to keep going until the last minute. Keep trying to score, keep going with our football that makes us Wolves.”

Jiménez may be Wolves’ top modern-day marksman, but he would need to do something incredible to threaten Steve Bull’s all-time club record of 306 goals in all competitions.
