Real Madrid legend Raúl González has opened up on the chances of him replacing Carlo Ancelotti as Los Blancos’ head coach next season.

The subject of the bench on the white half of Madrid has of course long been a headline talking point.

This comes amid long-standing speculation that Carlo Ancelotti is primed to depart next summer, to take up the reins of the Brazilian national team.

A whole host of tacticians, in turn, have been tipped to take their place in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabéu.

And one such name comes in the form of the aforementioned Raúl.

The former Real frontman is currently honing his craft as headmaster of Los Merengues’ Castilla side.

It has long been suggested, though, that the 46-year-old’s icon status in Madrid could see him afforded the opportunity to make the step up to the first team.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the prospect of as much was therefore put to Raúl himself.

And though the Spaniard was keen to keep his cards close to his chest, he refused to rule out the possibility:

“I’m a club person,“ he began, during an interview with Cadena Ser. “I am delighted with what I do, the important thing is to help on a daily basis. Next year, next season, we will know. In this football thing, there is no such thing as next year. There is today and the next game. For Real Madrid, it is the Champions League match, and for me, it is the Murcia match on Sunday.”
