Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card in the early stages of the second half as Manchester United slipped to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan found the back of the net to pile further misery on United, who have now lost their last three matches across all competitions.

United had 49% possession in comparison to Wolves’ 51% share of the ball.

Ruben Amorim’s men managed four shots on target from their total 11 cracks at goal. The hosts, on the other hand, fired seven shots with four of these requiring Andre Onana to intervene.

The Red Devils put together 455 passes with a pass accuracy of 80%. Wolves strung 17 more passes with a better pass completion of 83%.

Several United players failed to turn up, with Rasmus Hojlund being one of them.

The Dane got the nod to lead the line ahead of Joshua Zirkzee and he simply didn’t deliver the goods. He was bullied for large spells of the match and had no sight of goal.

During the 79 minutes he was on the pitch before being taken off, Hojlund failed to register a shot, whether on target or off target.

He failed to complete the one dribble he embarked on and only made a measly five passes.

Hojlund touched the ball 14 times.

The 21-year-old won just one of the five ground duels he delved into and came out on top in two of the six aerial challenges he was required to contest.

The forward lost the ball on seven occasions and was dribbled past twice.

Hojlund continues to prove he may not have what it takes to be relied upon to be United’s primary source of goals and his performance against Wolves was a stark reminder of this assessment.

It doesn’t get easier for United, whose next assignment is against high-flyers Newcastle on Monday.
