Celtic are yet to step up their interest in Rapid Vienna forward Nicolas Kühn. Rapid’s sporting director Markus Katzer has admitted that he hasn’t heard of any departures from the squad, especially given links suggesting Brendan Rodgers might swoop for Kühn as he looks to bring quality in during the January window.
Katzer told Kronen Zeitung, he said: “I assume that everyone will be with us in the second half of the season, I haven’t heard anything to the contrary.”
Celtic have been linked with the 24-year-old as Rodgers looks to bring quality into his attacking third, especially given Daizen Maeda and Oh have left for the Asia Cup.
Kühn started his career at St Pauli in their youth academy before moving to Hannover and then RB Leipzig before a €2m switch to Ajax in 2020.
Wyscout have named Kühn as one of the top 12 ‘chance creators’ in world football, something that will have appealed to Celtic’s recruitment team as they look to get sign the former prodigy. In 22 appearances this season, the attacker has three goals and seven assists and his offensive output has attracted the interest of Celtic. Kühn is expected to be worth upwards of £2m despite joining Rapid for £500k in the summer of 2022.
It will be interesting to see whether a move materialises for the player, especially given Celtic’s need to get players in the door. The manager said he wanted a few new faces in to benefit the overall squad.
