Speaking via an Instagram story in the aftermath of Neymar’s injury during Brazil’s opening game with Serbia at the World Cup, fellow Brazil forward, and Barcelona and former Leeds United winger, Raphinha bemoaned Neymar’s treatment by the Brazilian public, saying:
“In Argentina they treat Messi like a God. In Portugal they treat Cristiano Ronaldo like a king but the Brazilians are happy about Neymar’s injury. The biggest mistake of his career was being born Brazilian, this country doesn’t deserve his talent or his football.”
