Raphinha put himself in elite company as he equalled a stunning record set by Lionel Messi, helping Barcelona smash Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The Brazilian opened the scoring on 25 minutes before Robert Lewandowski hit a second-half double to put the tie firmly in Barça’s hands.
Lamine Yamal wrapped it up late on, slotting home with just over ten minutes left after a second assist from Raphinha, who was at the heart of everything.
With a goal and two assists on the night, Raphinha now has 19 goal contributions in the Champions League this season – topping both the goal (12) and assist (7) charts.
What makes it even more special? He’s the first player to hit those numbers in the competition since Messi managed it back in the 2011-12 campaign, when he racked up 14 goals and 5 assists before Barça were knocked out by Chelsea in the semis.
Now, with Barcelona looking nailed-on for a place in the semi-finals, the Brazilian star has everything in place to even overtake the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
