A truly frustrating display from FC Barcelona on yet another major European night is something that leaves a bad taste for all fans of the team. Across the board, the Catalan giants were outclassed by Borussia Dortmund in terms of both intensity and fortune. Ultimately, Barcelona suffer their first loss of 2025 in disappointing fashion.

La Blaugrana end up with nothing more than a 3-1 defeat away from home, with their only goal coming from an own goal scored by Dortmund. Slow, sluggish, and completely uninterested in doing anything progressive, this was a bad look for Hansi Flick’s team. The only positive is that Barcelona are now through to the semi-finals.

Here are the player ratings for the Barcelona players.

Player Ratings:

Wojciech Szczesny: 7.0

Committed an unnecessary mistake to give Borussia Dortmund a penalty that let them score a first-half penalty. However, he did make some big saves in the same half that justify saying that he had a good opening 45 minutes overall. His second half was decent as well.

Jules Kounde: 5.5

Did well to keep Dortmund’s pace on the flank as restricted as possible, but he was far from perfect. The Frenchman struggled with certain balls over the top and it left the defense in some problematic positions at times.

Ronald Araujo: 5.5

Made some occasional errors but was defensively solid on other occasions. Simply too chaotic of a performance from him to warrant an overly positive rating.

Pau Cubarsi: 6.5

Did well in terms of his ball-progression and the aggression he showed. In a team that lacked intent, Pau Cubarsi’s presence was undeniably a welcome one and it initiated some of the team’s better plays.

Gerard Martin: 6.0

Played well enough during the first-half, and his involvement was decent whenever he was in possession. Stayed solid during the second half as well.

Frenkie de Jong: 6.0

Left frustrated during the opening 45 minutes, Frenkie de Jong was clearly struggling at the start of the game. His performance slightly improved with Pedri next to him, but Dortmund still remained dangerous.

Gavi: 7.0
Arguably the only real bright spot of the first half for Barcelona, Gavi covered a lot of distance and played a crucial role in terms of being progressive with possession.

Lamine Yamal: 5.5

A weak first half for the Spanish winger saw him be quite restricted by the Borussia Dortmund players. However, his second half was not exactly much better either, and the youngster had an uncharacteristically poor outing.

Fermin Lopez: 6.0

Apart from the own goal that he forced out of Borussia Dortmund, Fermin Lopez was lacklustre. Should have at least had one goal, and that too is because it was literally an opportunity handed to him on a plate.

Raphinha: 5.5

Utterly useless in this game, and he barely did anything right. His press was easy to beat, his complacency was on full display, and it was clear to see that this was far from a good game for him.

Robert Lewandowski: 5.5

A below-par performance from the Polish centre-forward. Poor decision-making, not good enough in terms of his hold-up play, and his lack of pressure was simply frustrated to watch.

Pedri: 6.5

Brought a touch of extra control that Barcelona was missing, but the players around him were clearly not on the same wavelength.

Eric Garcia: 5.0

Decent enough, did what he had to.

Ferran Torres: 5.0

Did well to apply pressure to the opposition.

Dani Olmo: N/A

Not enough time on the pitch or impact on the game to warrant a rating.
