Raphaël Guerreiro has endured a difficult start to life at Bayern Munich since making the switch from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. The Portuguese left-back tore a muscle in his right calf just three weeks after signing for Der Rekordmeister, which saw him miss the first seven games of the season.
Nevertheless, after making substitute appearances against Preußen Münster and RB Leipzig, Guerreiro would tear another muscle in his left thigh. After a further month on the sideline, he would return to score a crucial goal against Heidenheim to put Thomas Tuchel’s side 3-2 up.
Regardless, as Guerreiro looked to put his injury troubles behind him, prior to Friday night’s game against Köln, the 29-year-old suffered a further blow. Tuchel announced that the Portuguese international would be out of the Bayern squad until further notice: “With Rapha, we have to take it day by day at the moment. He felt his muscle. We are very careful so as not to have another setback.”
Therefore, it is uncertain whether he will be able to return to the squad for the upcoming Champions League tie against Copenhagen. For Tuchel, the question will be whether he is willing to risk prolonging Guerreiro’s absence from the side if he is not 100% fit.
If Guerreiro is to continue his unfortunate run with injuries, then Bayern could look to acquire Ferdi Kadıoğlu in January.
