Callum Wilson is one to watch in the summer transfer window amid rumours that Newcastle could allow the forward to move on.

The 31-year-old has been a popular figure since joining the Magpies from Bournemouth and has scored 46 goals in 104 appearances for the club in all competitions. However, Newcastle’s financial concerns could lead to an exit and a number of clubs are eyeing up the England striker.

Eddie Howe’s side posted losses of £73m for the 2022/23 campaign and the sale of a leading name could help Newcastle keep in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. Wilson, having entered his thirties and with Alexander Isak first-choice forward, appears an obvious exit.

Any Saudi Pro League club – 9/1

Saudi Pro League sides now regularly feature in the transfer gossip columns, following the huge investment in the division. Several Premier League names have swapped England for the Middle East in recent months, including Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ruben Neves and Riyad Mahrez.

The move to Saudi Arabia would provide Wilson with a money-spinning new opportunity in a league packed full of ambition, though the forward could want to continue competing at the highest level to ensure he remains in contention for England.

England teammate Jordan Henderson left Saudi Arabia after just six months at Al Ettifaq, completing a transfer to Dutch side Ajax in order to keep alive his international ambitions.

Chelsea – 8/1

Chelsea are short of options at centre-forward and were linked with signing Wilson in January. The West Londoners have focused largely on emerging talent in recent windows, with an inexperienced side having struggled for consistent results.

Christopher Nkunu’s injuries have added pressure to the young shoulders of Nicolas Jackson, who has endured a mixed campaign since arriving from Villarreal in the summer. The Senegal striker has scored nine league goals, but a host of missed chances show refinement is needed in the final third.

The arrival of Wilson, a proven goalscorer at Premier League level, would be a short-term solution but would help ease the expectation on Jackson as he continues to adapt to the division.

However, Chelsea have their own concerns regarding the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and could require sales before launching a move.

AC Milan – 8/1

AC Milan are reportedly keen to sign a striker as the Rossoneri look to challenge at the top of Serie A.

The Italians have been reliant on the ageing Olivier Giroud at centre-forward this season and continue to be linked with bringing in competition and cover for France’s record goalscorer.

A move to Milan would increase the English contingent currently at the San Siro, with former Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek currently among Stefano Pioli’s options.

West Ham – 6/1

West Ham have had a patchy recent record when it comes to signing strikers in recent years, and the chance to sign a Premier League proven option will appeal to David Moyes.

Jarrod Bowen has been used as an auxiliary forward for much of the campaign, with Danny Ings having struggled to make an impact at the London Stadium since arriving from Aston Villa last January and Michail Antonio out injured.

A transfer to West Ham would see Wilson unite with Antonio, with the two currently co-hosting The Footballer’s Football Podcast on the BBC.

West Ham know better than most the threat Wilson can provide, with the 31-year-old boasting a prolific goal record against the East Londoners. He has scored 12 times in 14 league appearances against the Hammers, his highest return against any opponent.

Manchester United – 6/1

Manchester United are were also linked strongly with signing Wilson in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag’s team have badly struggled to score goals during the current campaign, with only Crystal Palace, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Sheffield United having scored less goals than the Red Devils in the Premier League.

United spent £72m to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in the summer and while the Dane has shown moments of exciting potential, an experienced option could help alleviate the pressure on the 21-year-old.

Though short-term signings, including Odion Ighalo and Wout Weghorst, have failed to work out in recent transfer windows, Wilson would be low-risk deal at a reported asking price of around £18m.

He has scored seven times in the Premier League this season despite competing for a role with Alexander Isak, averaging a top-flight goal every 122 minutes.
