Manchester United interim manager Ralf Ranfnick has addressed the media ahead of his sideâs meeting with West Ham on Saturday.
This is what he had to say.
âWe shouldnât make too much of a fuss out of it. A player like Cristiano Ronaldo doesnât like to be substituted. His reaction was emotional.
âItâs not a problem. I know how offensive players react to this but the team is more important no matter who it is.â
âI spoke with him at length on our flight back home from London and also this morning we spoke for about 20, 25 minutes. He told me what happened and that this was really a traumatic event, especially for his wife and three-year-old son.
âHe said to me that he right now needs to stay at home. He doesnât want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I fully understand being a father of two.
âWe agreed that heâll not be training today and not be on duty tomorrow for the game.â
âRight now Iâm not sure if he will be available for the game tomorrow. It was an important member of the family, somebody he was close to all his life [who passed away].
âHe attended the funeral on Wednesday but it has affected him a lot. I have to wait and see, heâs due back today so Iâll speak to him after training and take the decision.â
âRegarding Jesse, itâs the same as quite a few other players, heâs a really good player, itâs normal at other clubs, Newcastle showed interest in him but I am not the one dealing with that.â
