Ralf Rangnick is a ‘more serious’ contender than Scott Parker as Tottenham continue their search for a new manager.
That’s according to Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ manager hunt.
Christian Falk, head of football at German outlet BILD, claims Rangnick has been ‘offered’ to Tottenham.
He tweeted, “Ralf Rangnick was offered to Spurs and would like to be the next Manager. But: He only has outside chances. The club is looking for a coach with a younger profile.”
German Rangnick, 62, was last in charge of RB Leipzig in 2019 before he was promoted to Red Bull’s Head of Sport and Development.
This week, Football Insider revealed how Tottenham have made behind the scenes moves to make Parker their new manager.
Phillips claims Rangnick would be a better appointment than Parker and claimed his two years out of the game is ‘nothing’.
When asked if Rangnick’s time away from football will have any bearing on his chances of landing the Spurs job, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “No, it doesn’t matter.
“Big Sam [Allardyce] had a couple of years out of management. These managers do. You get to that point in your career where a break doesn’t matter.
“Two years out of the game is nothing. It’s probably good for him. It refreshes and reignites that passion.
“It’s no surprise that he wants the job because Tottenham is a massive club. Who wouldn’t want to manage Tottenham?
“He’s a more serious contender than Scott Parker, it could be a decent appointment.”
Earlier this year, Jurgen Klopp told the German FA to appoint Rangnik as the next Germany boss.
He said, “Ralf Rangnick would be good. He would have been my first solution.” [The News]
