Rangers ‘would consider’ a ‘suitable offer’ for defender Borna Barisic this summer if one arrives, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Barisic has played a pivotal part in the success that the Glasgow giants have had over the last couple of years, cementing his status as one of Scottish football’s most exciting talents.

What is the latest news involving Barisic?

The 29-year-old joined Rangers from Croatian outfit NK Osijek back in 2018 in the hope that it would open the door to the national side for him.

Since then, Barisic has firmly established himself in the international setup for Croatia due to his outstanding displays at club level and has attracted admiring glances from overseas.

A recent report from the Daily Record claims Turkish champions Trabzonspor are ‘set to step up their bid’ for the attack-minded left-back, with an unnamed Serie A outfit also said to be keen.

While away with his country on Nations League duty, Barisic admitted he is happy at Ibrox but can’t guarantee he will be with the club next term.

“I don’t know only about the club, but I am good there and enjoy it,” he said to RTL. “However, in football, you never know, there are always some inquiries.”

What has O’Rourke said about Barisic?

It’s claimed that Barisic’s ‘priority’ is to remain with Rangers, but O’Rourke believes the club’s hierarchy would consider sanctioning his sale if the numbers made sense.

He told GiveMeSport: “Well, this move has been talked about in probably every transfer window for the last couple of years.

“We’ve all expected Barisic possibly to move on, there’s been talks of moves to the Premier League and moves to other European leagues as well, but he has remained at Rangers.

“It’ll come down to fees, if somebody makes a suitable offer for Barisic, I’m sure Rangers would consider it.”

Would Barisic be a big loss?

Barisic, who reportedly earns £18,000-per-week, has played a pivotal part in Rangers’ success over the last couple of campaigns, claiming the Scottish Premiership title and a Scottish Cup crown.

In 155 appearances for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s charges, the 6 foot 1 ace has also registered seven goals and 35 assists, highlighting his threat in the final third of the pitch.

Losing the full-back would be a bitter blow to Rangers’ hopes of knocking bitter rivals Celtic off their perch next term, and everyone associated with the club will surely be hoping Barisic stays a little while longer.
