It has been reported that Rangers sent scouts to watch Motherwell star Lennon Miller for Scotland U19s, but face fierce competition in the form of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa not to mention Celtic as the 18-year-old looks set to leave Fir Park in the near future.
The midfielder, who will cost suitors an overall package of £7M with addons and clauses, has absolutely shone for the Steelmen this season, and it appears inevitable he will find a big move imminently, with the calibre of sides currently watching him.
It almost certainly prices Rangers out – while it could be seven £7M bids in theory and the boy picks his choice, it could also just go to the highest bidder too and the lad could fetch Motherwell approaching £10M with today’s silly prices.
But that’s down the line – the only thing Rangers can offer Miller over the other 6 options is game time – Miller will struggle for minutes in any Premier League side, despite the riches on offer, and even Celtic might not just plonk him straight into their midfield.
Rangers gives him a bigger chance of actually playing.
But it’s early days, and while the club is watching the boy, it doesn’t mean they intend to bid for him.
Rangers have a bad habit of not making a move when they should, and this probably smacks of the same thing.
Especially given he’s a Scottish player at a Scottish team who would cost upwards of an initial £4M.
Time will tell if Rangers do take this to the next stage.
