Rangers will be able to boost their chances of keeping Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent at the club by winning the Europa League, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The highly-rated duo have just over a year remaining on their existing contracts at Ibrox, and it’s set to be a pivotal month for them as they contemplate their long-term futures.

What is the latest news involving Morelos and Kent?

Morelos has established himself as a firm fans’ favourite since arriving from HJK Helsinki in 2017, registering 113 goals and 51 assists in 224 appearances across all competitions.

And the Colombia international got his hands on his first piece of silverware for Rangers last term, firing them to the Scottish Premiership title as they went the entire league campaign unbeaten.

However, Morelos’ time with the Glasgow giants could be coming to an end after it was revealed that he’s changed representatives ahead of the summer.

Kent is also in a similar situation to his South American teammate. The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Rangers nearly four years ago and could be set for pastures new next term.

According to 90min, long-term suitors Leeds United remain keen on the pacey winger, while there has also been interest from Everton, Wolves and newly-promoted Fulham.

Rangers may be forced into selling Morelos and Kent when the window reopens for business or risk losing them on free transfers in around 12 months’ time.

What has O’Rourke said about Morelos and Kent?

On Wednesday, Rangers are set to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final and O’Rourke believes victory in the showpiece event could convince the attacking pair to stay put.

He told GiveMeSport: “If you’re playing Champions League football, it’s going to help your chances of keeping hold of your best players, the likes of Morelos and Kent, who obviously would like to be playing at the highest level.

“So, if Rangers can go on and win it and they get in the Champions League, it’s only going to help their chances of keeping their best players at the club for the foreseeable future.”

How significant could the Europa League be?

Victory in the Europa League final would guarantee Rangers a place in pot one of the Champions League group stages next term, ensuring they have the best possible chance of progression.

Kent, who is valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, and Morelos, who is valued at £11.7m, would surely find the prospect of playing in Europe’s elite cup competition an appealing one.

It remains to be seen if Rangers can see off the threat of Frankfurt, but a positive result in the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium will only increase their chances of keeping their star performers on their books.
