There is absolutely no question tomorrow’s clash with Killie is colossal – Rangers haven’t started too well this season, and the side has a further gigantic match in midweek – going into the return leg v Union in some form would be very welcome.

Jordan Jones will of course be the focus of all attention – we don’t think the Northern Ireland international is regarded too negatively by Rangers fans, he is, after all, one of us, and it was his dream come true to join.

Unfortunately that red card v Celtic horrified so many supporters, who might have forgiven him had Steven Gerrard’s disgusting comments post-match not been made.

As it was, Jones never saw the light of day in the shirt again, rarely managing any starts after that. Funnily enough, the only time he got a start at Motherwell, he scored an outstanding goal, much to manager Gerrard’s disgust. Quite frankly, the Scouser hated Jones.

Jones’ career derailed after that, but he’s back at his football home of Killie where he enjoyed his best years, and few will be more champing at the bit to prove Rangers/Gerrard wrong than Jones, who will be as up for it as any visiting player to Ibrox has been in recent years.

For Rangers it’s a gigantic occasion – we have to get some form, and a clean sheet would be ideal. Killie started with a draw last week, and aren’t expected to be an impressive outfit this campaign back in the SPL, so it’s prudent for the home side to finally kick into gear and get some good football going.

Of course, it’s another ‘homecoming’ as well – Derek McInnes’ first visit to his old stomping ground with a side who isn’t Aberdeen – is he one of us?

That’s hard to say. He completely was as a player, and was fine post-playing career initially, but at the Dons he became extremely anti-Gers and was notable for getting into scuffles with Pedro Caixinha.

He was heavily criticised by large portions of the support for his conduct against our club as Aberdeen chief. But strangely enough has commentated on a LOT of Rangers matches for TV, even while he was Aberdeen manager.

But what’s done is done, and we’re sure the home fans will give he and his Northern Irish charge a fine welcome tomorrow.
