Rangers to make ‘serious’ move for Kilmarnock’s Daniel Armstrong | OneFootball

Rangers have been linked with finally making a serious move for Kilmarnock’s on-fire winger Daniel Armstrong, following yet another impressive performance from the attacker at Ibrox, amid a generally brilliant season at Rugby Park.

The 26-year-old former Scotland youth cap, born in England but with Irish heritage (well there’s a combination) has been exceptional for two SPL seasons in a row now, with 22 assists and goals in 47 last season, but this one yielding 23 in 44, a fraction higher with 3 matches still to go.

His market value would not be astronomical, he’s going into the final year of his deal at Rugby Park, a bit like Hearts captain and Player of the Season Lawrence Shankland, and while Rangers will be linked forever with the Gorgie striker, Armstrong is another the club is strongly looking at.

Indeed, his current fee is said to be around £1M, albeit in reality it would be more like three times that, but with the final year of his deal upcoming, Rangers could get him for a fair chunk less.

It’s pointless to describe the player Rangers would be getting, we’ve seen many times how dangerous Armstrong has been against us to say the least, with 3 goals and assists in 7 appearances against the Famous, he certainly has an effect. He wasn’t technically credited with an assist on Sunday, but his dangerous cross very much led to the opening goal.

Against Celtic? Two assists in 8 appearances, but both in wins and both being the winning assist.

In short, Danny Armstrong is a very capable winger who knows the SPL and what it takes at this level – and he can do it against Celtic, unlike our entire team these days.

The only thing is can he handle the weight of Rangers’ shirt? Well, we can’t guarantee any signing can, no matter their ability – we’re unlikely to be signing any elite clubs’ players, players who can handle must-win pressure like at Ibrox, and Armstrong is no different.

But Rangers need depth and quality on the right wing, with absolutely no players there right now even close to securing or convincing in that position.
