Three competitive matches under Russell Martin, just the one win. A 33% win ratio in all competitions, and yet more fan division between the man’s ardent backers, and those who have already seen enough.
Before the season opener it was ‘judge him after Motherwell ffs’. Now those goalposts have shifted to ‘just one game ffs’ and ‘get a grip ffs’.
Once again Rangers fans are split right down the middle, even if an Ibrox Noise poll revealed a staggering 65% of Rangers fans polled actually still back Martin implicitly.
Short version? It’s the movie we’ve all seen umpteen times before, appointing a wrong manager, then fans divided between the ‘back the manager’ crew and the ‘not for me’ crowd.
Rather than the club hedging its bets and finding a manager with a credible CV, like Ibrox Noise’s preference Brian Priske, they went cheap.
They went for a guy with absolutely no right to be Rangers manager.
Southampton fans warned us. This guy is a loser, who will blame everyone but himself and will make everything about himself.
Sure, you can bang on about his getting Southampton promoted, but he was fourth in the table and needed the playoffs. Is that positioning the calibre for winning Rangers 56?
No, once again Rangers fans are in the same position we’ve been for some time. Despite new owners and a new manager we’re arguably worse off than we were previously.
Priske? We’re not saying he’s the ghost of Walter, but he dragged a down-on-its-luck Sparta Prague back to life. Then won the title twice in a row. A club expected to win the league in Czechia – 36 titles when he took over. Sound familiarr? He’d already won the league in Denmark.
We might have had more of a chance with his CV than Russell Martin’s 4 wins in 19 at Southampton pedigree.
Club went cheap, and we’re paying the price. Three competitive matches under Russell Martin. And his backers won’t hear anything and go quick to abusing anyone who isn’t buying into him.
Square pegs don’t fit into round holes, but Rangers and many of its fans just keep pushing anyway.
