Rangers are officially skint after submitting a reported new £8M bid for Haji Wright of Turkish side Antalyaspor. This is of course us taking the ‘Michael’ out of notions the club has no money, because clearly we do, and enough sources have confirmed Rangers are interested in the American international, who, incidentally, is worth every penny of the bid we’ve submitted.

Rangers are up against Villarreal who also had a bid of around a million more rejected by the Turks, who expect not a penny less than the £10M they rate the boy at.

Looking at his CV, his value is pretty well-judged – two seasons in a row he’s been exceptional in Turkey, a very good league, and his entire career is littered with those kinds of numbers. We analysed him before, and learned his only weakness is hold-up play, that he’s not so strong yet for this.

But every other area of his game is absolutely elite and whoever does snare him is getting a player capable of being world class.

And as things stand, Rangers and the Yellow Submarine are going head-to-head to secure him – are we willing to up our bid to the full whack that the Turkish side want?

We hope so – this guy is the real deal, a truly marquee talent of the type we need to elevate the club, a genuinely top striker, and clearly the club agree and are trying to nab him for an ample chunk of change.

31 in 63 for Antalyaspor is a cracking return for a 25-year-old in two seasons in the Super Lig, and it’s no surprise his employers expect top price for him.

But Rangers have to face off against Villarreal, a side with money, to see if we can secure what seems to be our number one striking target this summer.

We’ll see how it goes over the next while.
