Rangers striker confirms Ibrox exit

After months of speculation, youngster Rory Wilson has confirmed he will not be signing a new deal because he wants to move ‘to the next level’.

The 16-year old striker, a prolific marksman, has been subject to interest from Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, and they are almost certain to snap him up, but if the likes of Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson found the ‘next level’ tough going in England, we suspect Wilson will not fare much better.

Is it a blow?

It’s disappointing to see yet another promising Rangers kid tempted by the bright lights of the PL, but then that IS the purpose of Auchenhowie.

Unlike most fans’ general thinking, it is not a conveyer belt for the first team, it’s a manufacturing plant to sell its constructed commodities to other teams.

Only occasionally, does a special talent rise up and get the attention of the seniors at the club with lieu to being a first team possibility.

And at 16, Wilson clearly isn’t interested in taking the chance on management seeing him like that.

And as such, he will leave for England, with cross-border rules meaning Rangers will net around £350,000 for him.

And that’s what the Academy does.

His reasons may be ill-conceived and maybe a bit presumptuous, but he is the product of a manufacturing plant which sells its best products.

And that’s just football.
