Rangers have stepped up their interest in Dutch international defender Riechedly Bazoer after the free agent quit Vitesse alongside former Rangers target Danilho Doehki.

The latter switched to Union Berlin, but Bazoer has not made a decision yet and is said to be looking at a host of European options.

Aged 25, he’s peak condition and value, with a market number of around £5M, and he’s plied his trade for his nation 6 times, with a club CV the envy of many.

Indeed, the Dutch stopper has played for Wolfsburg, Porto, Utrecht and Ajax in a fine career which has seen him mix with the best in the business, and this would represent a superb addition if Rangers can pull it off.

It’s the first proper sign of GVB using his Dutch contacts to influence a potential addition, and Bazoer is thought to be tempted by both Gio’s legendary status, Rangers’ excellent reputation among the Dutch, our UEL conquests last season, fight to win the league back again and of course, the tantalising prospect of UCL football next season.

This would be a free signing of the highest calibre, and would represent a storming start for the club if the board and Gio can pull it off.

One to watch.
