Van Bronckhorst will be buzzing

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will surely be left buzzing by this news, as a fresh deal for the youngster would avoid the club losing him to another team on a free transfer. Other clubs may have become alerted to Lowry’s potential availability within the next 18 months if Rangers were slack and did not try to extend his contract, which could have led to them seeing him leave for nothing.

This would have been particularly frustrating for Van Bronckhorst after he handed the midfielder his first-team debut against Stirling Albion last week. He scored in the 4-0 win over the League Two side in the Scottish Cup, having clearly made enough of an impact in training to convince the head coach to give him a chance.

In his last nine games for Rangers and Scotland at youth and senior level, the teenager has produced four goals and two assists from central midfield. This suggests that he is enjoying a fine season and starting to show that he could have the potential to become a key first-team player for the club further down the line.

How well do you know Morelos? First... who did he score his 100th goal against?

St Mirren Aberdeen Hearts Hibernian

Scoring on his debut against Stirling Albion will not have done Lowry’s chances of further involvement any harm, and Van Bronckhorst could be tempted to test him out in the Premiership between now and the end of the campaign. His development could be aided by minutes in the Scottish top flight, whether that comes from the start or off the bench for a cameo.

The 18-year-old could have a bright future at Ibrox and that is why the Dutch head coach will be buzzing with the club’s efforts to ensure that he does not depart. He will surely be excited to work with the young midfielder on the training ground to hone his skills and mould him into the perfect player for his system, which will hopefully happen in the coming months and years.
