Rangers chief Ross Wilson has enjoyed a successful spell at Ibrox as he has overseen a Premiership title win since joining the club.

He worked with Steven Gerrard to end Celtic’s dominance of the division and has now brought in Gio van Bronckhorst to make it two title wins on the bounce for the Scottish giants.

His work behind the scenes has played a key part in the club’s success, whether that has been keeping hold of key players like Ryan Kent or Alfredo Morelos or bringing players like Leon Balogun and Ianis Hagi.

However, it has not all gone his way and one signing that has backfired during his tenure is wide forward Scott Wright. The attacker joined on a permanent deal from Aberdeen in January 2021 and has failed to show the best of his abilities since making the move.

He has been unable to establish himself as a regular for the Gers as he has left a lot to be desired at times when he has been selected to play.

His last start for the club came in a 1-0 win over Livingston last month. As per SofaScore, he lost five of his nine duels, completed one of his four attempted crosses and failed with his only dribble attempt in the match. This has been a theme throughout the campaign, as he has lost 54% of his duels and 25% of his crosses in 14 Premiership games.

This shows that he has been a liability for the Gers as he is not dominant in his individual battles and he does not offer enough quality on the ball to make up for his lack of strength. He has two goals and zero assists in the division, with van Bronckhorst seemingly not impressed by his displays as he has played twice in the league since the turn of the year.

Wright is reportedly on £5.6k-per-week and has been picking up his wage for 56 weeks now with a minimal contribution on the pitch. His lack of involvement under the Dutch head coach and his statistics when he has played, under him or Steven Gerrard previously, suggest that he is not good enough for the club.

This means that, at this moment in time, he has been an unsuccessful signing for the Gers and that he has been ransacking Wilson’s wage budget for just over a year. He is not playing enough football or performing to a level when he does play to warrant more game time and this means that his wage is a waste of money as it stands.
