Rangers reportedly reject John Lundstram wage demands | OneFootball

There’s been a huge John Lundstram and Rangers update today, as Turkish journalist Ezgi Alp revealed the English midfielder has rejected a move to Trabzonspor because they can’t afford his wages demands, which were, as Ibrox Noise reported months ago, around £35,000pw.

Instead, there are claims from the same journo that Ipswich Town are in pole position to secure him, claims a dodgy tabloid in Scotland has subsequently debunked, for what that’s worth.

But it does seem that his wage demands are too high for the Turkish side and they’ve walked away from the negotiating table.

We reported some months ago that Lunny wanted beyond £30,000. Not quite the top earlier at the club (£40K), but closer to what he believes he is worth. And that’s about £32-35,000.

And Rangers simply aren’t paying him that – we can’t afford that salary for a player with no return resale on that – we made that error with Connor Goldson and don’t want to repeat it.

Danilo is the other at that number and we’ve had little return on that one either. He is at least younger though.

So Alp believes Championship or lower Premier League sides are in the hunt, and in her defence she does have a bit of credibility.

We do think Lunny used Trabzonspor to try to attract interest from down south, he did want to remain at Rangers but the deal offered just didn’t tempt him, and not only could he get over £1.7M a year at a new club, but the signing on fee is massive.

This is the part where a free agent isn’t actually free, and we’ll discuss that in due course.

But the bottom line is Rangers can’t afford Lunny, neither can Trabzonspor, and while Ipswich Town may or may not be in line to secure him, it’s looking massively unlikely that the ex-Sheffield man will be remaining in Govan beyond the summer at this point.
