Rangers reject bid for Borna Barisic – may be revisited

Rangers have rejected a modest bid for Borna Barisic, with around £2M submitted for the Croat’s services, said to have been from Nottingham Forest.

The former Osijek man has seen a bit of a new lease of life in recent weeks, with the added competition of Turkey’s Ridvan Yilmaz seeing the existing LB upping his game a significant amount and looking a lot more comfortable.

Indeed, while Calvin Bassey’s presence seemed to hurt Barisic a lot, the new boy seems to have provided a tonne of healthy competition and pushed him on.

This new lease of form has given suitors renewed interest and we understand a small bid was made for him by Forest, following on from Watford’s modest bid of recent times as well.

The Croatia international’s stock isn’t what it used to be, with no notions these days of a £20M price tag on his head. But his CV is more than respectable and Rangers don’t need to sell for anything below what it’s felt he’s worth, and the club would expect between £5M-£10M for him today.

£2M is not going to cut it for sure!

Rangers’ finances are in an excellent place these days, so there’s no need to sell assets below what they are worth – something we set in motion with the sale of Nathan Patterson.

That was a game changer and now we get proper worth for our players.

Borna might not be a £20M+ player these days, but he is still worth more than £2M and if Forest or anyone else wants him, they’ll need to dig deeper in their pockets.
