Rangers player values have just hiked significantly

If there’s one massive bonus to Rangers making the UEL final, regardless of how it panned out, it’s the difference it’s made to player values.

Up till full time at Leipzig, Rangers were not a Europa League finalist – and player values were solid but no more. We were looking at £15M for Morelos, maybe £10M for Kamara, £10M for Aribo et al.

Now, we’re aware contract length does play a big role in how much you can expect for an asset – you might have a ‘£35M player’ but if he’s in the final year of his deal, you’re very lucky to get half that.

But that notwithstanding, Rangers’ place in Seville is why Calvin Bassey will fetch, if sold, up to £35M because he not only stood out magnificently on that stage, but he was on that stage at all.

As they all were.

Rangers had a bunch of coveted players who made the final, and that in itself has hiked their values up significantly.

Sure, the Morelos and Hagis of this world were injured so didn’t feature, but we’re now a UEL finalist and that’s a lucrative boon to player value.

It’s not like we’re selling the team, far from it – but any players we do now sell, thanks to their making that occasion, will go for a bit more than they might have had they not got to the final.

Glen Kamara, for example, is out of contract in 3 years – he’s big value, and he’s one, if anyone makes a move, that will have a massive value now. As a UEL finalist, international, and at his age, he will set suitors back a lot. He also scored in that semi.

Making Seville changed the picture a lot for Rangers, and it really was a monumental achievement – and its implications are very, very far reaching indeed.
