In a dramatic and often fiery Old Firm clash at Ibrox, Rangers and Celtic shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Cyriel Dessers struck early to give Rangers the lead, but Adam Idah levelled for the visitors after a contentious VAR-assisted goal. Barry Ferguson’s side showed more fight than in recent derbies, but once again couldn’t find that killer edge. Here’s how the players rated:
Liam Kelly – 7
Reliable between the sticks. Made crucial saves and couldn’t be faulted for the goal.
James Tavernier – 7
Offered his usual attacking threat and delivered a few dangerous balls. Defensively had one or two frailties but not disastrous.
John Souttar – 6
Decent on the ball but involved in the deflection that led to the equaliser. A mixed bag.
Leon Balogun – 7
Surprisingly solid before going off injured. Kept things simple and won his battles.
Jefte – 6
Quiet. Did his defensive duties but contributed little going forward.
Nicolas Raskin – 8
Outstanding. Aggressive, tidy on the ball and bossed much of the midfield battle.
Connor Barron – 7
Showed composure and tenacity beyond his years. A gritty display with plenty of energy.
Mohamed Diomande – 8
Another strong showing. Covered ground well and showed quality in tight areas. A constant presence.
Vaclav Černý – 7
Bright spells and some promising runs. A little unlucky to be hooked when he was.
Nedim Bajrami – 6
Faded in and out. Tried to make things happen but lacked real influence.
Cyriel Dessers – 7
Scored a very tidy goal and worked hard. Some erratic touches, but kept the Celtic defence on their toes.
Subs:
Hamza Igamane – 6
Lively but didn’t quite break through.
Ianis Hagi – 6
Tried to add some spark.
Danilo – 6
Minimal impact in a short cameo.
Manager: Barry Ferguson – 6
Got the team fired up and they started well. Still questions over in-game decisions and substitutions, but his side didn’t look overawed.
Overall, Rangers matched Celtic stride for stride and probably edged the better chances. But once again, fine margins and lapses in focus denied them the win. Encouraging signs, but still work to do.
